Nature and Needs of the Gifted Learner >> SELECT THIS COURSE
This six-hour session is focused on helping teachers understand the specific needs of gifted and talented students. Offered in a job-embedded format, teachers will receive information on definitions of gifted/talented; common characteristics of gifted learners; Texas requirements for serving these students; common programming models for meeting the needs of the gifted; and practical strategies for bringing out the best in these students.

Identification and Assessment of the Gifted Learner >> SELECT THIS COURSE
Teachers will be trained concerning common ways to identify students as gifted and talented. The pros and cons of these assessments will be stressed. Teachers will gain an understanding of how challenging it is to identify gifted and talented students correctly. A portion of the six-hour training will involve learning specific strategies that help gifted and talented students excel in the classroom.

Curriculum Differentiation for the Gifted Learner >> SELECT THIS COURSE
Through an online format, teachers will learn common terminology and research relating to differentiation. Process, product, and the content will be explained in detail with specific examples given for each. Teachers will be equipped with instructional strategies that are easily implemented across all content areas. Participants will be asked to create a unit of study, using what they have learned in the course, as a culminating activity.

Social and Emotional Needs of the Gifted Learner >> SELECT THIS COURSE
Specific objectives for this six-hour professional development session include: common affective needs of gifted students; specific ways to address those affective needs in the classroom; and instructional strategies that work best with gifted students in light of their social and emotional needs.

Creativity and Critical Thinking for the Gifted Learner >> SELECT THIS COURSE
Inspiring gifted students to think out-of-the-box utilizing divergent thinking is the focus of this six-hour training. Teachers will learn different types of questioning strategies; appropriate ways to ask questions in order to solicit answers from students; recognition of teacher behaviors that can interfere with verbal interaction with students; and strategies that bring out the creative thinking of gifted learners.
